Watching LANE FOUR perform, one tends to forget that they are only 15 years old. A budding Alternative Rock band, Lane Four was started by four school chums a little over three years ago. Beginning with a classic rock foundation, the members brought together elements of more modern genres from “indie” to heavy metal. These influences are clearly present in their current iteration, and is attributable for bringing them broad appeal from a large audience of inter-generational fans.“We each have different musical tastes,” says lead singer LAYLA ALLMAN, “but we’ve found a way to blend these differences into a sound of our own!”  Ms. Allman fronts the band with the kind of hard-driving vocals one expects from considerably older singers. Her influences, which include Heart’s Ann Wilson; Amy Lee of Evanescence, and AFI’s Davey Havok, have and continue to play an important role in preparing her for achieving a signature vocal style of her own.  She is also a classically trained pianist.Bassist AUSTIN DUNN gets his inspirational marching orders from a mixture of Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers and System of a Down’s Shavo Odadjian. Nicholas “Nick” Loiacano, who was blessed at birth with perfect pitch, is heavily influenced by legendary rockers Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix,  and relative newcomers Joe Satriani and Jack White.  Drummer ERIC PERKINS plays with more confidence  than men twice his age. Foo Fighters/Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl are Eric’s main sources of power, though he is clearly inspired by metal bands like Trivium and Children of Bodom.Like so many other bands, LANE FOUR began playing at the local church festivals and county fairs, but after becoming 1st runner up in the KFOX Last Band Standing Contest, things took a decidedly serious turn.  The station’s famous personality Greg Kihn, whose self titled band had several #1 hits in the 1980’s, remarked, “[They] have this intangible, great raw talent that every great band has and tries to hold onto as long as humanly possible!”The ensuing publicity afforded the band several immediate benefits:  to date they have played some of the best venues in Northern California, such as The Shoreline Amphitheater, Blakes On Telegraph, and Beale St. and are booked months in advance.  They have been offered endorsements by prestigious companies such as Gibson Guitars and Shure Microphones.  And they continue to grow their local following through concentrated online networking and word-of-mouth.
